Overflow Time is the critical interval between the emergence of a conversational need and the start of human or automated service provided with context. It is the metric that monitors the breath of a queue before the conversation suffers value degradation or abandonment.

In Simple Language

Imagine Overflow Time as the "window of opportunity." If a customer calls you, they have an expectation of urgency. If you take 5 minutes to respond, but when you respond you already know exactly who they are and what they want (loading the Bandeja de Contexto), you are still within time. If you take 20 minutes and still ask "How can I help?", the overflow failed: the conversation overflowed out of the customer's patience and away from the sale.

Why This Concept Exists

Companies suffer from Operational Amnesia and the Decision Gap. Overflow Time names the risk of idleness in the queue. It exists to measure the efficiency of an operation's productive capacity. Do not confuse it with AHT (Average Handle Time). AHT measures how much time you spend talking to the customer. Overflow Time measures the time the customer spends waiting to be absorbed by the next stage of the journey with intelligence. It is also not just passive "waiting time," because in MCI, the ideal overflow presupposes that information (context) travels along with the conversation.

How to Apply in MCI
